About

Mila (Milena) Wójcicka is a printmaker and illustrator. She works in classic printmaking techniques — linocut, etching, collagraphy and soft ground — and draws in coloured pencil, moving back and forth between the printing press and the sketchbook.
Many of her prints begin with water and the creatures that live in it: fish, platypuses and turtles drifting across large sheets of paper, cut into the block and printed by hand. Alongside them run quieter series about the body, closeness and a changing landscape — the subject of Solastalgia, named after the distress caused by environmental change.
Every print is inked and pulled by hand, in small editions. In the drawings, from sketchbook spreads to picture-book illustrations, the trace of the pencil is always left visible.
